Any individual, parent, school, or employer with a concern they would like to discuss is welcome. The initial meeting is free of charge. This is a chance for you to get to know us and for us to get to know you
Individuals come to the ICCD with concerns about their education, academic issues, career, language and developmental issues, relationships, health, happiness, motivation, behaviors, stress, trauma, or life decisions. Meeting with a clinician is a chance to explore one's self, and determine possible courses of action or resolution in a respectful and confidential setting.
A psychologist has a doctoral degree (Ph.D., PsyD, or EdD) in psychology, which is the study of the mind and behaviors. Psychologists are trained and educated in evaluating and treating mental and emotional disorders. Further training in treatment methods, psychological theory, and behavioral therapy are gained through structured internships.
Psychologists are qualified to do counseling and psychotherapy, perform psychological testing, Educational assessments Behavioral/Mental health assessments, and provide treatment for mental disorders. Often a psychologist will work in association with a psychiatrist who provides the medical treatment for mental illness while the psychologist provides the psychotherapy, testing, and Diagnostics.
Speech-language pathologists (SLP), sometimes called speech therapists, assess, diagnose, treat, and help to prevent disorders related to speech, language, cognitive communication, voice, swallowing, and fluency.
Speech-language pathologists work with people who cannot produce speech sounds or cannot produce them clearly; those with speech rhythm and fluency problems, such as stuttering; people with voice disorders, such as inappropriate pitch or harsh voice; those with problems understanding and producing language; and those with cognitive communication impairments, such as attention, memory, and problem-solving disorders. They also work with people who have swallowing difficulties.
Occupational therapy (OT) is the use of assessment and treatment to develop, recover, or maintain the daily living and work skills of people with a physical, mental, or cognitive disorder. Occupational therapists also focus much of their work on identifying and eliminating environmental barriers to independence and participation in daily activities. Occupational therapy is a client-centered practice that places emphasis on the progress toward the client's goals. Occupational therapy interventions focus on adapting to the environment, modifying the task, teaching the skill, and educating the client/family in order to increase participation in and performance of daily activities, particularly those that are meaningful to the client. Occupational therapists often work closely with professionals in physical therapy, speech therapy, nursing, social work, and the community.
Mental health counselors help people who have normal cognitive processes cope with difficult life events, for example, physical illness, death of loved ones, and relationship problems or divorce. Others help people manage serious mental illnesses like bipolar disorder. Counselors know when to refer clients or patients for additional resources and how to identify when abuse may be happening or when there is a risk of suicide or other violence.
Some clinical counselors specialize and work with a particular population, for example, the elderly or teenagers, etc.,
