Background and counselling experience

I have a BA (hons) in Integrative Counselling and have been practicing since 2011. I work with individuals and couples and my areas of experience include: Anxiety and Depression (including PTSD), Addictions, Childhood Sexual Abuse, Cultural Identity, Domestic Violence and Abuse, Grief and Loss, Life Transitions, Major life changes, Mood Disorders (including Bipolar), Relationship and Attachment Difficulties, Relocation and Cultural Adjustment, Self-Awareness, Self-Esteem and Confidence, Self-harm and Suicidal Ideation, Stress Management, Trauma, Work and Career Difficulties. My experience with couples includes (but not limited to): Communication and Conflict Resolution, Cross Cultural Relationships, Infidelity, Sex and Intimacy, Separation and Divorce and Parenting. Having lived, worked and travelled five European and ten Asian countries, I have experience of working with a range of service user demographics and have a good understanding of the difficulties faced by expatriates and incorporate both Eastern and Western philosophies into my practice.
What you can expect
I have a relationship and experiential based counselling approach that blends Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural and Psychodynamic theories of human development. My helping approach places clients as the experts in their own lives which I facilitate by providing an accepting, genuine and understanding environment. I encourage clients to identify and explore any thoughts feelings and behaviours and any unhelpful patterns of relating to others that may be contributing to their difficulties. Paying attention to the body and non-verbal aspects of the clients’ experiences, focussing attention to the present and challenge are other ways of working in my approach. This enables clients to further their understanding and gain insight into the difficulties, identify more choices and more useful ways of relating to others and deal with life more effectively in the present. Often the difficulties clients encounter outside of the counselling manifest in the therapeutic relationship providing opportunities to address and deal with these in new and different ways. I work jointly with clients and regular feedback, honesty and transparency between us helps me to understand which approaches clients find most useful and assists them in achieving the goals they have in counselling.
Other skills and experience
I also have twelve years’ experience of working with children, young people and families in a Children’s Services setting. In this capacity, I have experience of working directly with children and families, assessing the needs and coordinating support, delivering (U.K/ U.S) evidence-based programmes such as Protective Behaviours, Triple P Parenting, Signs of Safety and Non-Violent Resistance Programmes. I also have experience of managing teams, supervising individuals and groups, performance management and delivering training.
